ADAPTABLE

ADAPTABLE analyzes antimicrobial peptide (AMP) sequences and properties to identify peptide families and scaffolds using property-based alignment across integrated AMP datasets.

Key Features:

  • Property Alignment Method: Implements a property alignment approach to group peptides into sequence–property (SR) families based on shared sequence and physicochemical characteristics.
  • Integrated AMP Sequence Database: Consolidates more than 40,000 nonredundant antimicrobial peptide sequences from multiple resources with standardized associated data.
  • Handling of Non-Proteinogenic Amino Acids: Supports peptide sequences containing non-proteinogenic amino acids during database integration and analysis.
  • Property-Based Filtering: Selects peptides using criteria including target organism and experimental activity concentration.
  • Peptide Scaffold Identification: Identifies common traits among peptides with similar antimicrobial activities to generate candidate peptide scaffolds.

Scientific Applications:

  • Antimicrobial Peptide Discovery: Identifies candidate antimicrobial peptides with activity against specific microbial targets.
  • Sequence–Property Relationship Analysis: Investigates relationships between peptide sequence features and antimicrobial activity.
  • Antibiotic Resistance Research: Supports development of peptides targeting antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
  • Peptide Therapeutic Design: Facilitates identification of structural scaffolds for designing novel antimicrobial peptides.

Methodology:

ADAPTABLE integrates AMP sequences from multiple databases, standardizes sequence-associated data including non-proteinogenic amino acids, applies property alignment to generate sequence–property families, and filters peptides using selected biological and experimental activity parameters.
