AmyCo
AmyCo curates a centralized database of 75 diseases associated with amyloid deposition, annotating causative proteins, deposit components, affected tissues, and cross-references to ICD-10, MeSH, OMIM, PubMed, AmyPro, and UniProtKB.
Key Features:
- Comprehensive Classification: Categorizes 75 distinct diseases associated with amyloid deposition into two groups: Amyloidosis (diseases primarily characterized by pathological accumulation of amyloid fibrils) and Clinical Conditions Associated with Amyloidosis (disorders where amyloid deposition is a secondary complication).
- Detailed Annotations: Provides per-entry annotations of the major protein component responsible for amyloid formation (causative protein), additional components found in amyloid deposits, and specific tissues or organs affected.
- Extensive Cross-Referencing: Cross-references entries with ICD-10, MeSH, OMIM, PubMed, AmyPro, and UniProtKB for standardized identifiers and literature linkage.
Scientific Applications:
- Pathogenesis Studies: Supports investigation of molecular mechanisms of amyloid formation by providing causative protein and tissue involvement data.
- Diagnostic Development: Informs development of diagnostic criteria and biomarkers through standardized disease classification and cross-referenced literature.
- Therapeutic Research: Facilitates identification of protein targets and deposit components relevant to strategies for preventing or reversing amyloid deposition.
- Educational Resource: Serves as a reference for studying the relationships between amyloidogenic proteins, deposit composition, and affected organs across amyloid-related diseases.
Methodology:
Data collection and annotation were performed to populate entries with causative proteins, deposit components, affected tissues, and database cross-references, and the resource is maintained with continuous updates.
