CircFunBase

CircFunBase provides a curated database of functional circular RNAs (circRNAs), integrating experimentally validated and computationally predicted functional annotations to support study of circRNA roles across eukaryotes.

Key Features:

  • Manually curated entries: Contains over 7,000 manually curated records documenting functional aspects of circRNAs.
  • Experimental and predicted functions: Integrates experimentally validated functional annotations alongside computationally predicted circRNA functions.
  • Species focus: Emphasizes data for Homo sapiens and Mus musculus while covering eukaryotic circRNAs.
  • circRNA–miRNA interaction networks: Provides visualized networks depicting interactions between circRNAs and microRNAs (miRNAs).
  • Genome browser: Includes a genome browser to visualize the genomic context and origins of circRNAs.
  • Data integration: Aggregates functional annotations and interaction data to link circRNAs with regulatory and genomic information.

Scientific Applications:

  • Gene regulation studies: Enables analysis of circRNA roles in gene expression and their interactions with miRNAs.
  • Disease research: Supports investigation of circRNA functional annotations in the context of disease mechanisms.
  • Evolutionary biology: Facilitates comparative and evolutionary studies of circRNA functions across eukaryotes.

Methodology:

Manual curation of entries and integration of experimentally validated and computationally predicted functional annotations, with generation of circRNA–miRNA interaction networks and provision of a genome browser for genomic-context visualization.
