Open-Electroencephalography (EEG)

Open-Electroencephalography (EEG) provides configurable EEG acquisition hardware and software for EEG measurements and brain–computer interface (BCI) experimentation.

Key Features:

  • Configurable Channels: Supports up to 32 EEG channels.
  • Passive Electrode Compatibility: Compatible with passive electrodes including textile, rubber, and contactless types.
  • Customizable Hardware Specifications: Adjustable dry-electrode reference circuitry, circuit bandwidth, and sample rate for generalized biopotential measurements.
  • Hardware Specifications and Reproducibility Materials: Includes device firmware, Gerber files, and a bill of materials for hardware reproducibility.
  • Performance Testing: Reports performance test results from a single volunteer focusing on alpha wave elicitation.
  • BCI2000 Integration: Integrates with BCI2000 via an EEG source driver and provides source code and compiled executables (.exe).
  • BIOADC SPI Expansion (prototype not implemented): Describes a BIOADC supporting SPI communication for an additional 32 channels including a gain controller that can be enabled through hardware modifications.

Scientific Applications:

  • Configurable EEG experiments: Applicable to experiments requiring variable channel counts and diverse electrode types.
  • Brain–computer interface research: Applicable to BCI studies ranging from basic EEG measurements to complex BCI experimentations.

Methodology:

Provides detailed hardware specifications and reports performance tests on a single volunteer emphasizing alpha wave elicitation; integrates an EEG source driver for BCI2000 with source code and compiled .exe; documents a BIOADC SPI expansion for an additional 32 channels including a gain controller (not implemented in the tested prototype).
