ETM-DB
ETM-DB: Integrated Ethiopian Traditional Medicine and Phytochemicals Database
ETM-DB integrates curated data on Ethiopian traditional medicinal herbs, phytochemicals, phenotypes, and human target gene/proteins into a relational database to support natural product-based drug discovery.
Key Features:
- Comprehensive Entity Coverage: Contains 1,054 medicinal herbs, 1,465 therapeutic use instances, 573 multi-herb prescriptions, 4,285 associated compounds, and 11,621 human target gene/proteins.
- Entity Relationship Mapping: Defines 5,779 herb–phenotype associations, 1,879 prescription–herb connections, 16,426 herb–compound interactions, 105,202 compound–phenotype links, 162,632 compound–gene/protein relations, and 16,584 phenotype–gene/protein correlations.
- Cheminformatics and ADMET Profiling: Predicts physicochemical properties and absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) parameters for 4,285 compounds.
- Drug-Likeness Evaluation: Applies FAF-Drugs4 to assess drug-likeness; 4,080 compounds passed curation and 876 met drug-likeness criteria.
Scientific Applications:
- Natural Product Drug Discovery: Enables systematic analysis of Ethiopian medicinal plants, phytochemical compositions, and human target gene/protein associations to identify candidate therapeutic compounds.
Methodology:
Data were collected from research articles, theses, books, and public databases, then manually extracted, curated, and structured into a relational database integrating herbs, prescriptions, compounds, phenotypes, and human target gene/proteins with computed cheminformatics, ADMET, and FAF-Drugs4 drug-likeness assessments.
