FeptideDB

FeptideDB facilitates discovery and analysis of bioactive peptides derived from food proteins, supporting identification of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and other peptide bioactivities.

Key Features:

  • Data Collection and Integration: Aggregates bioactive peptide (BP) data from published research articles and existing databases into a consolidated resource.
  • In Silico Prediction: Employs computational methods that integrate peptide cleavage tools with database matching to predict potential bioactive peptides from food proteins.
  • Enzyme Digestion Module: Generates peptide sequences that can be cleaved from an input protein using various proteolytic enzymes.
  • Molecular Docking for ACE Inhibition Prediction: Performs automatic molecular docking to predict interactions between cleaved peptides and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) to identify potential inhibitors.
  • 3D Peptide Structure Modeling: Constructs three-dimensional peptide structures to support structural analysis and docking studies.
  • Visualization Tools: Provides analysis and visualization functions to examine peptide properties and peptide–target interactions.

Scientific Applications:

  • Bioactive peptide discovery: Identification and cataloguing of peptides derived from food proteins with potential biological activities.
  • ACE inhibitor prediction and cardiovascular research: In silico screening of peptides for inhibitory activity against ACE to support hypertension-related studies.
  • Structure–function analysis: Use of 3D models and docking results to investigate peptide interactions with target proteins.
  • In silico prioritization for experimental follow-up: Computational ranking of candidate peptides for subsequent biochemical or pharmacological validation.

Methodology:

Aggregates BP data from literature and databases; performs proteolytic cleavage using an enzyme digestion module; applies database matching and in silico prediction; builds 3D peptide structures and executes automatic molecular docking against ACE.
