FosSahul

FosSahul is a database that compiles and standardizes fossil ages of non-human vertebrate megafauna from the Late Quaternary period in Sahul (the combined landmass of Australia and New Guinea). The database aims to provide a comprehensive, centralized, and publicly accessible resource for palaeoecological research in the region. The 2016 version included fossil records published up to 2013, while the updated version (FosSahul 2.0) extends the dataset to include records published up to 2018, totaling 11,871 dated fossil records. The updated version also incorporates methodological details and a new algorithm to automate the quality-rating process, enhancing transparency and reproducibility. FosSahul has facilitated numerous palaeoecological analyses, and the updated version showcases its utility by presenting the temporal pattern of megafauna genus richness about palaeoclimate indices over the past 180,000 years.
