GET-IT enables standardized sharing of geospatial and sensor-based ecological observations by implementing OGC Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards to support water-quality monitoring of mountain lakes within LTER-Italy.

Key Features:

• Standardization through OGC/SWE: Leverages Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards to standardize ecological observations across heterogeneous data sources.
• Creation of SOS services: Enables creation of Sensor Observation Service (SOS) endpoints for querying and retrieving sensor-based environmental observations.
• SensorML metadata generation: Generates Sensor Model Language (SensorML) metadata describing sensor characteristics and measurement processes.

Scientific Applications:

• Water-quality monitoring (LTER-Italy mountain lakes): Supports water-quality assessment and monitoring across distributed mountain lake sites within the Italian Long Term Ecological Research network (LTER-Italy).
• Interoperable environmental data sharing: Enables standardized sharing and integration of maps, measurements, and sensor data for environmental monitoring and analysis.

Methodology:

Integrates OGC-compliant services using Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards with open-source software capabilities to create Sensor Observation Service (SOS) endpoints, generate SensorML metadata, and upload ecological observations.
