MISIM v2.0

MISIM v2.0 infers microRNA (miRNA) functional similarity and predicts novel miRNA-disease associations by integrating positive and negative miRNA-disease associations into refined similarity scores.

Key Features:

  • Enhanced Data Content: Contains a threefold increase in data content compared to MISIM v1.0 for expanded miRNA and association coverage.
  • Improved Algorithmic Approach: Incorporates both positive and negative miRNA-disease associations to generate dual similarity scores that can be positive or negative.
  • Novel Prediction Algorithm: Predicts novel miRNA-disease associations based on the refined similarity scores derived from integrated association data.
  • Network Visualization: Provides network visualization capabilities to explore and analyze functional relationships between miRNAs.
  • Functional Enrichment Analysis: Performs functional enrichment analysis for functionally paired miRNAs to identify associated biological processes and pathways.

Scientific Applications:

  • miRNA functional similarity inference: Enables quantification and comparison of functional similarity among miRNAs.
  • miRNA-disease association prediction: Supports prediction of novel links between miRNAs and diseases.
  • Therapeutic target identification: Aids identification of candidate miRNAs for therapeutic investigation.
  • Disease etiology investigation: Facilitates molecular-level studies of disease mechanisms involving miRNAs.
  • Network-based analysis: Allows exploration of miRNA functional relationships through network representations.
  • Pathway and process contextualization: Uses functional enrichment to contextualize miRNA functions within biological pathways and processes.

Methodology:

Integration of positive and negative miRNA-disease associations to compute dual similarity scores, a prediction algorithm that identifies novel miRNA-disease associations from these refined scores, and provision of network visualization plus functional enrichment analysis for result interpretation.
