Open-community Profiling Assessment tooL (OPAL)
Open-community Profiling Assessment tooL (OPAL) evaluates and compares taxonomic metagenome profilers using standardized performance metrics to quantify accuracy and reliability of taxonomic profiling in metagenomics.
Key Features:
- Performance Metrics: Incorporates metrics including those established by the first challenge of the Critical Assessment of Metagenome Interpretation (CAMI) to assess profiler accuracy and reliability.
- Visualizations: Generates visual representations of performance results to support quantitative comparison of profilers.
Scientific Applications:
- Benchmarking of taxonomic profilers: Provides systematic, quantitative comparisons of taxonomic metagenome profilers across standardized metrics.
- Profiler selection for metagenomic studies: Informs selection of taxonomic profiling tools by highlighting strengths and weaknesses across CAMI and Human Microbiome Project datasets.
Methodology:
Performs comprehensive performance comparisons of multiple taxonomic metagenome profilers using datasets from the CAMI initiative and the Human Microbiome Project and metrics from the first CAMI challenge.
