TAMMiCol

The software Tool for Analysis of the Morphology of Microbial Colonies (TAMMiCol) is designed to efficiently and automatically convert microbial colony images into binary format. It utilizes the structure of images to select an appropriate thresholding tolerance for distinguishing between the colony and the background. TAMMiCol performs favorably in comparison to manual processing and standard segmentation methods. It allows batch processing of multiple images and supports exporting binary data as CSV or MATLAB MAT files for further analysis. Built-in statistics in TAMMiCol facilitate immediate analysis, providing results comparable to manually processed binary images. It has been applied to study the growth patterns of Saccharomyces cerevisiae colonies, demonstrating its utility in microbial morphology research. TAMMiCol features a user-friendly graphical interface, making it accessible to users without extensive knowledge of image processing, statistical analysis, or programming.
