AAAKB
AAAKB curates and integrates genes, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), pathways, and protein interaction data related to abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), and predicts candidate AAA-associated genes using a random forest algorithm applied to protein interaction information.
Key Features:
- Manually Curated Database: A curated catalog of genes, SNPs, and pathways associated with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).
- Gene Prediction Model: A random forest (RF) algorithm leveraging protein interaction information from the database to predict genes potentially linked to AAA, including candidates implicated in pathogenesis or differential expression in AAA patients.
- Cardiovascular Disease Integration: Predicted genes include those with roles in other cardiovascular diseases, connecting AAA-related findings to broader cardiovascular biology.
- Protein Interaction Visualization: Tools to determine shortest paths between target proteins within the protein interaction network to explore molecular relationships.
Scientific Applications:
- Mechanistic Research: Provides a consolidated resource of AAA-related genes and pathways for investigating disease mechanisms.
- Genetic Studies: Reduces manual screening of genetic databases by aggregating curated AAA genetic information for study design and hypothesis testing.
- Novel Gene Discovery: Uses protein interaction–based random forest predictions to identify candidate genes that may serve as therapeutic targets or biomarkers for AAA.
Methodology:
AAAKB uses protein–protein interaction data to compute shortest paths between proteins and applies a random forest algorithm on protein interaction-derived information to predict AAA-associated genes.
