Alignment-Annotator

Alignment-Annotator annotates and visualizes nucleotide and amino acid sequence alignments, integrating external annotations such as BioDAS, UniProt, the Catalytic Site Atlas, and the Protein Data Bank (PDB) for comparative and structural analyses.

Key Features:

  • Supported sequence types: Handles nucleotide and amino acid sequence alignments.
  • Interactive visualization: Produces HTML5-based interactive alignment visualizations with color-coded residues and preserved annotations.
  • Annotation integration: Imports and maps annotations from BioDAS servers, UniProt, the Catalytic Site Atlas, and the Protein Data Bank (PDB) onto alignments.
  • Export: Exports annotated and colorized alignments as interactive HTML files packaged in a ZIP archive.
  • Server-side processing: Performs computational tasks on the server to process alignments and annotations for rendering.

Scientific Applications:

  • Structural Biology: Correlates sequence alignments with structural annotations from the PDB.
  • Functional Genomics: Identifies functional domains, motifs, and catalytic residues using annotations from UniProt and the Catalytic Site Atlas.
  • Comparative Genomics: Enables comparison of sequences across species or strains to support evolutionary and comparative analyses.

Methodology:

Server-side computation integrates sequence alignment data with annotations from BioDAS, UniProt, the Catalytic Site Atlas, and the PDB and renders HTML5 interactive visualizations, with annotated alignments exportable as interactive HTML in a ZIP archive.
