ANTs
ANTs implements methods to analyze animal social networks by computing global, polyadic, and nodal network measures, performing static and temporal analyses, and testing significance using data stream and network (node and link) permutations.
Key Features:
- Comprehensive Network Measures: Computes a wide array of network metrics including global, polyadic, and nodal measures for detailed characterization of network structure.
- Data Randomization Techniques: Implements data stream permutations and network permutations (node and link) to generate randomized datasets for hypothesis testing.
- Statistical Permutation Tests: Supports permutation-based statistical tests applicable to both static and temporal network analyses.
- Network Visualization: Provides visualization options to graphically represent networks and their structural properties.
- Multilevel Network Analysis: Enables analyses at multiple levels from individual node metrics to overall network structure.
- Static and Temporal Analyses: Supports analysis of networks at single time points and across multiple time points.
- Computational Efficiency: Uses efficient algorithms to accelerate computation of network measures and permutations, enabling handling of large datasets and reported to outperform existing R packages.
Scientific Applications:
- Animal ecology: Enables investigation of how individual attributes, sociodemographic characteristics, and ecological pressures influence social relationships among animals.
- Evolutionary biology: Facilitates study of the formation and evolution of social structures and behavioral dynamics in populations.
- Social Network Analysis (SNA): Supports exploration of cooperation, competition, and other interaction patterns using SNA techniques on static and temporal data.
Methodology:
Computes global, polyadic, and nodal network metrics; performs data stream and network (node and link) permutations and statistical permutation tests for static and temporal analyses; and employs efficient algorithms to speed network measures and permutations.
