ArachnoServer

ArachnoServer curates a database of spider venom protein toxins, providing sequences, nucleic acid records, protein structures, molecular target annotations, and taxonomic data to support research in pharmacology, neuroscience, agriculture, and structural biology.

Key Features:

  • Comprehensive Data Collection: Houses 1078 protein sequences, 759 nucleic acid sequences, and 56 protein structures.
  • Molecular Target Ontology: Provides a molecular target ontology specific to venom toxins for annotating toxin–target interactions.
  • Taxonomic Information: Includes current and historical taxonomic data for spider species associated with toxins.
  • Advanced Search Capabilities: Supports queries by toxin mass, external database accession numbers, publication dates, and phyletic specificity.
  • BLAST Searches: Enables BLAST comparisons using mature toxin sequences for rapid sequence similarity analyses.

Scientific Applications:

  • Drug Discovery and Development: Facilitates identification of venom peptides as lead compounds targeting specific receptors and ion channels.
  • Neuroscience Research: Supports analysis of toxin interactions with neural targets to investigate neurological processes and disorders.
  • Agricultural Applications: Enables exploration of insecticidal spider toxins for development of pest control solutions.
  • Structural Biology: Provides structural data to study protein folding, stability, and function of venom toxins.

Methodology:

Data entries are compiled and validated through manual curation.
