backtranambig (EBI)

backtranambig (EBI) converts protein sequences into ambiguous nucleotide sequences using nucleotide ambiguity codes to represent all possible codons for each amino acid, enabling analysis of potential genetic variation and codon degeneracy.

Key Features:

  • Back-Translation Capability: Generates ambiguous nucleotide sequences from protein sequences by enumerating all codon possibilities for each amino acid.
  • Nucleotide Ambiguity Codes: Represents codon alternatives using nucleotide ambiguity codes to capture synonymous codon diversity in the output sequences.
  • EMBL-EBI Job Dispatcher Integration: Operates within the EMBL-EBI Job Dispatcher sequence analysis tools framework, enabling use alongside EMBL-EBI datasets and analytical tools.

Scientific Applications:

  • Evolutionary Biology: Facilitates study of evolutionary relationships and genetic diversity by providing all possible nucleotide sequences encoding a protein.
  • Genetic Engineering: Aids design of synthetic genes by listing alternative codon usages that can encode a target protein.
  • Gene Expression Studies: Supports investigation of how alternative nucleotide sequences encoding the same protein may affect gene expression and related analyses.

Methodology:

Reads a protein sequence and writes all possible nucleic acid sequences that could encode it by applying nucleotide ambiguity codes; integrates with EMBL-EBI resources for access to related datasets and tools.
