BIMS

BIMS manages and integrates breeding program data to store, organize, archive, and analyze cross, performance, pedigree, geographical, image-based, phenotypic, and genotyping datasets and to combine private phenotypic and genotypic data with public genomic and genetic information.

Key Features:

  • Data types supported: Stores and organizes cross, performance, pedigree, geographical, image-based, phenotypic, and genotyping datasets.
  • Data integration: Integrates private phenotypic and genotypic data with publicly available genomic and genetic information.
  • Import/export and archiving: Provides data import/export and data archiving capabilities for breeding datasets.
  • Analysis: Supports analysis of breeding data to inform trait understanding and breeding decisions.
  • Mobile phenotype collection: Integrates with the Android App Field Book for mobile phenotype data collection.

Scientific Applications:

  • Trait discovery and interpretation: Enhances understanding of important traits by linking phenotypic and genotypic data with public genomic resources.
  • Marker-assisted breeding support: Maximizes the utility of marker-assisted breeding by combining genotype and phenotype information.
  • Breeding program data management: Manages, archives, and analyzes breeding program datasets across crop species.
  • Database implementations: Implemented in specialized community databases including the Genome Database for Rosaceae, CottonGEN, the Citrus Genome Database, the Pulse Crop Database, and the Genome Database for Vaccinium.

Methodology:

Computational functions explicitly include data storage, organization, archiving, import/export, integration of private and public genomic/genetic data, and analysis of phenotypic and genotypic datasets; phenotype data can be collected via the Android App Field Book.
