Bio-jETI
Bio-jETI integrates distributed bioinformatics services using the Java Electronic Tool Integration Platform (jETI) and the jABC framework to enable composition and automated orchestration of heterogeneous services through Semantic Web annotations, model checking, and synthesis.
Key Features:
- Remote tool integration (jETI): Uses the Java Electronic Tool Integration Platform (jETI) to connect and invoke distributed bioinformatics services.
- Workflow modeling (jABC): Provides workflow modeling via the jABC framework to construct composite analytical processes from interconnected services.
- Semantic annotations: Employs Semantic Web technology to attach machine-processable meta-information to services and data for automated reasoning.
- Semantic-level model checking: Applies model checking at the semantic level to detect inconsistencies and incorrect service combinations within compositions.
- Synthesis methods: Uses synthesis techniques to automatically resolve type mismatches between services when possible.
- Mediator creation and reuse: Supports creation and semantic annotation of mediators that bridge unresolved type gaps and addition of these mediators to a service library for reuse.
Scientific Applications:
- Automated workflow orchestration: Composition and automated orchestration of complex in silico analysis pipelines from distributed bioinformatics services.
- Heterogeneous service integration: Integration of heterogeneous bioinformatics services across different biological application domains via semantic annotations and jETI connectivity.
- Service composition validation: Detection and indication of type incompatibilities and invalid service combinations using semantic model checking and synthesis.
- Mediator development for interoperability: Development and reuse of annotated mediators to enable interoperability between services with incompatible interfaces.
Methodology:
Remote tool integration via jETI, workflow modeling via jABC, application of Semantic Web annotations to services and data, semantic-level model checking and synthesis to resolve type mismatches, and creation/annotation of mediators added to a service library.
