BioADAPT-MRC
BioADAPT-MRC employs adversarial domain adaptation to enable biomedical machine reading comprehension by adapting general-purpose neural MRC models to biomedical texts while reducing reliance on annotated biomedical training data.
Key Features:
- Adversarial Learning-Based Domain Adaptation: Employs an adversarial learning framework to mitigate discrepancies and marginal distribution variance between general-purpose and biomedical datasets.
- Reduced Dependence on Labeled Data: Minimizes reliance on synthetic or human-annotated biomedical datasets to address scarcity of expert-labeled training data.
- Transfer Learning Enhancement: Facilitates transfer learning from general-purpose domains to biomedical targets without the performance degradation of direct representation transfer via its adversarial adaptation mechanism.
- Performance Evaluation and Benchmarking: Evaluated on BioASQ-7b, BioASQ-8b, and BioASQ-9b benchmark datasets and reported state-of-the-art performance without additional biomedical-specific training data.
Scientific Applications:
- Automated literature review: Extracts and comprehends answers from biomedical literature to support automated literature review workflows.
- Clinical decision support systems: Enhances retrieval of relevant biomedical facts to support clinical decision support systems.
- Personalized medicine research: Adapts general-purpose models to biomedical corpora for personalized medicine research in settings with limited labeled data.
Methodology:
Uses an adversarial learning framework to align feature distributions between general-purpose and biomedical datasets, reducing domain shift and enabling transfer learning of neural MRC models without extensive retraining on domain-specific data.
