BISC
BISC provides a database of binary subcomplexes that links structural information and protein–protein interaction (PPI) records to support analysis and validation of protein–protein interactions.
Key Features:
- Structural Perspective: Provides detailed structural information for binary subcomplexes, including entries that are structurally characterized or represented as modeled interfaces.
- Integration with Major Databases: Incorporates interaction data from BioGRID, IntAct, and HPRD to enable modeling and cross-referencing of PPIs.
- Web Services for Validation: Provides computational web services that assess the validity of hypothesized PPIs by examining modeled interfaces.
- Research-oriented Data Assessment: Supports identification of potential inaccuracies and false positives within PPI datasets by comparing structural and interaction data.
Scientific Applications:
- Structural–Functional Integration: Linking binary subcomplex structures with PPI datasets to connect structural biology and functional genomics analyses.
- PPI Validation: Validating or refuting hypothesized protein–protein interactions through assessment of modeled interfaces.
- Database Curation: Identifying possible inaccuracies and false positives in PPI databases such as BioGRID, IntAct, and HPRD.
- Interface Modeling: Extending structural coverage by generating models of binary subcomplex interfaces based on PPI records.
Methodology:
Models binary subcomplex interfaces using structural data and interaction records from BioGRID, IntAct, and HPRD, and applies computational web-service analyses that examine modeled interfaces to assess PPI validity.
