BLUR

BLUR identifies protein divergences across species at both proteome and subprotein levels to facilitate comparative genomics analyses using precomputed BLAST searches and model organism queries.

Key Features:

  • Detection of genotype divergence: Identifies gains or losses of proteins and specific subprotein regions, including known domains, uncharacterized segments, and small motifs, to detect divergence or specialization between related clades.
  • Dual research strategies: Supports comparisons of species groups without prior knowledge to predict phenotype differences and targeted comparisons between species with and without a specific phenotype.
  • Analytical outputs: Produces data suitable for functional enrichment analysis, protein-protein interaction network analysis, and multiple sequence alignments.
  • Precomputed BLAST searches and model-organism queries: Leverages precomputed BLAST results and model organism queries to enable comparative analysis across major life groups.

Scientific Applications:

  • Evolutionary history reconstruction: Delineates evolutionary histories by identifying proteome- and subprotein-level divergences among species.
  • Genotype–phenotype relationship analysis: Facilitates linking protein and subprotein variations to phenotypic differences, including analyses that account for sequence plasticity among orthologs.
  • Adaptation studies: Supports investigation of species adaptation to diverse environments by profiling protein gains, losses, and subprotein modifications.
  • Gene function prediction via phylogenetic profiling: Enables prediction of gene functions through comparative phylogenetic profiling across species.

Methodology:

Uses precomputed BLAST searches and model organism queries to perform comparisons across species, enabling exploration of macro-level proteome changes and micro-level subprotein alterations.
