BrainPalmSeq

BrainPalmSeq provides a curated RNA-seq database of palmitoylating (ZDHHC) and de-palmitoylating enzyme expression across the mouse brain to support analysis of S-palmitoylation regulation in neuronal development, plasticity, and disease.

Key Features:

  • Curated RNA-seq database: Compiles and curates expression data from publicly available RNA-seq datasets focused on palmitoylating and de-palmitoylating enzymes in the mouse nervous system.
  • ZDHHC and accessory protein coverage: Emphasizes expression and regulation of ZDHHC palmitoylating enzymes and their accessory proteins alongside a selected set of known de-palmitoylating enzymes.
  • Region- and cell-type-specific expression: Provides region-specific and cell-type-specific expression profiles across the mouse brain.
  • Coordinated expression and enrichment analysis: Highlights coordinated expression relationships among ZDHHC enzymes, accessory proteins, de-palmitoylating enzymes, and other brain genes and includes enrichment analysis for potential S-palmitoylation substrates.
  • Predictive modeling of enzyme–substrate interactions: Uses expression patterns of ZDHHC enzymes to predict and support validation of palmitoylating enzyme–substrate interactions.

Scientific Applications:

  • Neuronal development and plasticity research: Enable investigation of molecular roles of S-palmitoylation in neuronal development and synaptic plasticity via enzyme expression profiling.
  • Neurological disease mechanism studies: Support analysis of dysregulated S-palmitoylation implicated in severe neurological disorders.
  • Substrate and target identification: Facilitate identification of candidate S-palmitoylation substrates and potential therapeutic targets through coordinated expression and enrichment analyses.

Methodology:

Compilation and curation of expression data from publicly available RNA-seq datasets; coordinated expression analyses and enrichment analysis to identify candidate S-palmitoylation substrates; predictive modeling using ZDHHC expression patterns to infer enzyme–substrate interactions.
