BreastImplantAnalyzer

BreastImplantAnalyzer calculates breast implant volume from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data to support pre-operative planning in revisional breast implant surgery.

Key Features:

  • Semi-Automated Algorithm: Utilizes a semi-automated algorithm to determine breast implant volume from MRI data.
  • Accuracy and Performance: Achieved an average accuracy of 98.6%, a Spearman correlation coefficient of 0.967 with documented implant volumes, and performs faster than previously proposed methods.
  • Tested Implant Types and Sample Size: Validated on saline and both smooth and textured silicone implants across twenty-two implants in total.
  • Input Data and Validation Cohort: Operates on pre-operative breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and was tested on patients who underwent revisional implant surgery.
  • 3D Slicer Integration: Implemented to run as an extension for the 3D Slicer medical imaging platform.

Scientific Applications:

  • Pre-operative planning for revisional implant surgery: Provides quantitative implant volume measurements from MRI to address uncertainty regarding implant size in surgical decision-making.

Methodology:

Implements a semi-automated algorithm to calculate implant volume from MRI and was validated on pre-operative breast MRIs from patients undergoing revisional implant surgery (twenty-two implants).
