BSviewer

BSviewer visualizes bisulfite sequencing data at single-nucleotide resolution to display DNA methylation status and preserve genotype information for analysis of CpG and non-CpG methylation and SNP-associated allele-specific methylation.

Key Features:

  • Nucleotide-Level Visualization: Provides single-nucleotide resolution visualization of methylation status from bisulfite sequencing reads.
  • Genotype Preservation: Maintains genotype information, including single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), to support allele-specific methylation analyses.
  • CpG and non-CpG Methylation: Captures methylation signals at both CpG and non-CpG sites to reveal methylation dynamics beyond CpG sites.
  • Implementation: Implemented in Perl and compatible with GNU/Linux platforms.

Scientific Applications:

  • Nucleotide-resolution methylation analysis: Enables detailed analysis of DNA methylation patterns at single-nucleotide resolution.
  • Allele-specific methylation and imprinting studies: Supports investigation of allele-specific methylation and imprinting by preserving genotype information at SNP sites.
  • Epigenetic regulation and genotype–methylation interaction: Facilitates study of interactions between genetic variants and methylation in epigenetic regulation.
  • Cross-species methylation profiling: Applicable to analysis of CpG and non-CpG methylation across different species.

Methodology:

Processes bisulfite sequencing data to generate nucleotide-level visualizations that incorporate methylation status and genotype (SNP) information; implemented in Perl and runs on GNU/Linux platforms.
