BUSCA
BUSCA predicts protein subcellular localization by integrating specialist predictors to annotate eukaryotic and bacterial protein sequences.
Key Features:
- Integration of Multiple Tools: Integrates DeepSig and TPpred3 for signal and transit peptides, PredGPI for GPI-anchor prediction, ENSEMBLE3.0 and BetAware for transmembrane domain detection, and BaCelLo, MemLoci, and SChloro for subcellular localization discrimination.
- Comprehensive Outcome Processing: Processes and integrates outputs from the constituent predictors to provide a unified subcellular localization annotation for input protein sequences.
- Benchmarking and Performance: Benchmarking on CAFA datasets achieved an F1 value of 0.49 on 2732 CAFA2 targets, outperforming all other evaluated methods in that category, and the method ranks among the best for CAFA3 targets.
Scientific Applications:
- Protein function inference: Uses subcellular localization annotations to support inference of protein molecular function and biological role based on cellular compartmentalization.
- Proteomics studies: Facilitates proteomics analyses that require precise assignment of proteins to cellular compartments.
- Genomic functional annotation: Supports functional annotation pipelines in genomics projects by providing localization labels for predicted or novel proteins.
Methodology:
Integrates and processes predictions from DeepSig, TPpred3, PredGPI, ENSEMBLE3.0, BetAware, BaCelLo, MemLoci, and SChloro to generate a unified subcellular localization annotation.
