CASPredict

CASPredict predicts and functionally annotates CRISPR-associated (Cas) proteins to identify and classify components of CRISPR-Cas systems.

Key Features:

  • Identification and Classification: Uses a support vector machine (SVM) algorithm leveraging optimal dipeptide composition to predict and classify Cas proteins.
  • Functional Annotation: Annotates Cas protein functions using the hmmscan search algorithm.
  • Validation and Accuracy: Demonstrated 84.84% accuracy by ten-fold cross-validation.

Scientific Applications:

  • CRISPR-Cas System Research: Enables inference of CRISPR-Cas system types through identification and annotation of Cas proteins.
  • Genome Editing: Identifies class 2 CRISPR-Cas system components as candidate effectors for genome editing research.

Methodology:

Prediction via an SVM using dipeptide composition; functional annotation via hmmscan; performance assessed by ten-fold cross-validation (84.84% accuracy).
