CMBD

CMBD consolidates and curates cancer metabolic biomarkers and their relationships to cancer subtypes to support analysis of metabolic pathways implicated in cancer pathogenesis and precision oncology.

Key Features:

  • Literature integration: Integrates data extracted from 248 PubMed literature sources.
  • Manual curation: Manually curates 438 relationships between 282 biomarkers and 76 cancer subtypes across 18 tissues.
  • Entity coverage: Covers genes, proteins, metabolites, and other small molecules as metabolic biomarkers.
  • Data contents: Includes literature references, clinical sample annotations, and interrelationships among biomarkers and cancer subtypes.
  • Pathway associations: Records pathway associations linking biomarkers to metabolic pathways including 'Phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis', 'phenylalanine metabolism', 'primary bile acid biosynthesis', 'Glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism', 'citrate cycle (TCA cycle)', and 'alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism'.
  • Metabolic heterogeneity: Supports investigation of metabolic heterogeneity across cancer types.

Scientific Applications:

  • Precision oncology biomarker analysis: Enables identification and analysis of metabolic biomarkers for diagnosis, treatment selection, and prognosis in oncology.
  • Breast cancer pathway analysis: Pathway analysis identified 'Phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis', 'phenylalanine metabolism', and 'primary bile acid biosynthesis' as implicated in breast cancer initiation and progression.
  • Prostate cancer pathway analysis: Pathway analysis identified 'Glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism', 'citrate cycle (TCA cycle)', and 'alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism' as key pathways in prostate cancer.

Methodology:

Data were extracted from 248 PubMed sources and manually curated into 438 biomarker–cancer subtype relationships; pathway analysis of metabolic biomarkers was performed in case studies.
