cncRNAdb
cncRNAdb provides a manually curated database of experimentally validated RNAs that exhibit both protein-coding and noncoding functions (dual-function RNAs, binary functional RNAs, bifunctional RNAs or cncRNAs) to support analysis and annotation of their molecular roles.
Key Features:
- Manual curation: Entries are manually curated to record experimentally validated functions of RNAs.
- Experimental support statistics: The database contains approximately 2,600 experimentally supported functions across more than 2,000 distinct RNAs.
- RNA types included: The collection comprises over 1,300 translated ncRNAs and over 600 untranslated mRNAs.
- Multi-species coverage: Data spans functional annotations from more than 20 species.
- Consolidated validated annotations: Experimentally validated function annotations for dual-function RNAs (cncRNAs, bifunctional RNAs) are centralized for analysis.
- Support for method development: The curated dataset is suitable for analysis and for training or benchmarking RNA function prediction methodologies.
Scientific Applications:
- Functional annotation: Cataloging and annotating protein-coding and noncoding roles of individual RNAs, including translated ncRNAs and untranslated mRNAs.
- Mechanistic studies: Investigating molecular roles and mechanisms of dual-function RNAs in cellular processes.
- Comparative analyses: Comparing conservation and functional patterns of cncRNAs across multiple species.
- Predictive model development: Training and benchmarking computational predictors for RNA coding/noncoding status and multifunctionality.
Methodology:
Entries were compiled and validated through manual curation of experimentally supported RNA functions.
