ComPIL
ComPIL matches experimental shotgun proteomics spectra against a comprehensive protein sequence library using the ProLuCID-ComPIL search engine to enable metaproteomic peptide and protein identification in complex microbiome and environmental samples.
Key Features:
- Extensive Database: ComPIL 2.0 contains over 113 million protein records and approximately 4.8 billion unique tryptic peptide sequences, representing a 2.3-fold expansion over the prior version.
- Optimized Search Engine: A modified ProLuCID-ComPIL search engine is optimized for querying experimental spectra with increased accuracy and speed, enabling searches of complex metasamples with unknown compositions from human, animal, and environmental microbiomes.
- Enhanced Identification Accuracy: ComPIL 2.0 increases the number and confidence of unique peptide and protein identifications, as demonstrated on a healthy human gut microbiome proteomic sample.
Scientific Applications:
- Microbiome Research: Facilitates proteomic annotation of microbiomes from human, animal, and environmental sources.
- Proteomics Studies: Supports comprehensive analysis of protein systems in complex biological samples and large-scale proteomic projects.
Methodology:
Publicly available sequence data are assembled into a comprehensive library that is queried using the ProLuCID-ComPIL search engine tailored for metaproteomic analysis.
