ConR
ConR computes species' extent of occurrence (EOO), area of occupancy (AOO), and estimates number of locations to produce preliminary IUCN Red List Criterion B conservation assessments from georeferenced occurrence data.
Key Features:
- R package implementation: Implemented in R to perform large-scale, automated conservation assessments.
- Geographical Range Parameter Calculation: Calculates EOO, AOO, and estimates number of locations as required under IUCN Criterion B.
- Automated Batch Processing: Processes multiple species simultaneously to generate preliminary assessments in batch.
- Data Summarization and Visualization: Outputs results in spreadsheets and generates maps to support IUCN Red List submissions.
- Taxonomic Versatility: Applies to any organism with reliable georeferenced distribution data across diverse taxa.
Scientific Applications:
- Preliminary IUCN assessments: Produces Criterion B-based preliminary conservation status assessments for species using occurrence data.
- Conservation prioritization: Identifies species with restricted EOO/AOO or limited locations that may require urgent conservation attention.
- Large-scale analyses with open datasets: Enables automated processing of large open-access occurrence datasets for multi-species range estimation.
Methodology:
ConR uses georeferenced distribution data to compute EOO, AOO, and number of locations according to IUCN definitions, performs these computations in batch, and exports results as spreadsheets and maps.
