CR-EST

CR-EST compiles, processes, and annotates expressed sequence tag (EST) data from crop species to support genomic analysis and gene discovery in plants.

Key Features:

  • EST Sequence Repository: Contains more than 200,000 EST sequences derived from 41 cDNA libraries of barley, wheat, pea, and potato.
  • Automatic EST Processing Pipeline: Identifies chimeric clones and generates a non-redundant unigene dataset consisting of consensus sequences and singletons.
  • Sequence Similarity Analysis: Supports BLAST alignment of query sequences against the CR-EST database for comparative sequence analysis.
  • Functional Annotation: Provides Gene Ontology and metabolic pathway annotations for EST-derived sequences.
  • ORF Identification: Enables visualization and analysis of open reading frames (ORFs) within EST sequences.

Scientific Applications:

  • Crop Genomics: Facilitates identification and characterization of expressed genes in barley, wheat, pea, and potato.
  • Functional Genomics: Supports functional annotation of plant genes through Gene Ontology and pathway analysis.
  • Comparative Genomics: Enables sequence similarity searches and identification of homologous genes across species.

Methodology:

CR-EST processes expressed sequence tag datasets using an automated pipeline that detects chimeric clones, clusters sequences into consensus contigs and singletons to generate a unigene set, and performs sequence similarity analysis and functional annotation using BLAST, Gene Ontology, and metabolic pathway mapping.
