CTPIC
CTPIC identifies saccharides and saccharide derivatives within complex chemical structures by analyzing covalent structure to assign a probabilistic measure of saccharide identity.
Key Features:
- Advanced algorithm: Analyzes the covalent structure of chemical compounds to support saccharide identification.
- Probabilistic classification: Produces a probabilistic measure quantifying the likelihood that a molecule is a saccharide or derivative.
- Distinguishes modified molecules: Detects saccharides amid structural modifications that complicate identification by traditional methods.
- Database-scale application: Has been applied to the RCSB Ligand Expo and other large molecular datasets to expand saccharide identification.
- PDB survey results: Analysis of the Protein Data Bank using CTPIC indicated that approximately 7.7% of proteins bind saccharides.
- Characterization of bioactive moieties: Aggregates information about saccharide-related bioactive moieties within complex molecular datasets.
Scientific Applications:
- Carbohydrate biomarker identification: Supports identification of saccharides and derivatives relevant as biomarkers for cardiometabolic conditions and cancers.
- Carbohydrate-related biochemistry research: Facilitates large-scale surveys of saccharide occurrence and protein–carbohydrate interactions in molecular databases.
- Therapeutic and functional annotation: Aids characterization of saccharide-containing ligands and their potential biological roles and therapeutic relevance.
Methodology:
Uses an advanced algorithm to analyze covalent chemical structure and generate a probabilistic measure of saccharide identity.
