DaliLite (EBI)

DaliLite performs pairwise structural comparisons and structure database searches to identify and quantify structural similarities among macromolecules (proteins and nucleic acids) as an independent implementation of the Dali server search engine.

Key Features:

  • Pairwise Structure Comparison: Performs precise pairwise comparisons of protein and nucleic acid 3D structures to identify similarities and differences at the molecular level.
  • Structure Database Searching: Conducts searches against structural databases to locate related structures based on structural similarity.
  • Multiple Alignments and 3D Superimposition: Generates multiple structure alignments and 3D superimpositions for comparative analysis.
  • Visualization of Alignments and Superpositions: Produces visual representations of multiple alignments and 3D superimpositions for inspection of structural relationships.
  • Dali Server Search Engine Implementation: Implements the search engine component derived from the Dali server for structure comparison and retrieval.

Scientific Applications:

  • Structural Biology Research: Facilitates analysis of protein folding, function, and evolution through detailed structural comparisons.
  • Drug Design and Development: Supports identification of potential drug targets and design of therapeutics by comparing and aligning molecular structures.
  • Educational Purposes: Provides visualization outputs that support teaching and demonstration of structural biology concepts.

Methodology:

DaliLite employs advanced algorithms that leverage both sequence and spatial (three-dimensional) data to generate accurate structural alignments.
