dbDEMC 3.0

dbDEMC 3.0 catalogs differentially expressed microRNAs (miRNAs) identified in human, mouse, and rat cancers to support comparative analysis of miRNA dysregulation and functional annotation in oncology.

Key Features:

  • Expanded Data Repository: Contains 3,268 unique differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) across 40 distinct human cancer types and offers approximately two-fold more data entries than the previous version.
  • Cross-Species Data Inclusion: Includes DEMs from animal models (mouse and rat) to enable cross-species and translational analyses.
  • Categorization and Functional Annotations: Provides nine generalized categories for differential expression analysis and integrates functional annotations of DEMs based on experimentally validated targets.
  • Systematic Literature Mining: Aggregates and standardizes high-throughput experimental information mined from published studies to compile DEMs.

Scientific Applications:

  • Gene Expression Regulation Studies: Enables investigation of how miRNA dysregulation affects gene expression in cancer.
  • Comparative Oncology Research: Supports cross-species comparisons to identify conserved miRNA expression patterns and mechanisms using human, mouse, and rat data.
  • Biomarker Discovery: Facilitates identification of differentially expressed miRNAs as potential biomarkers for detection, prognosis, and treatment response in cancer.
  • Functional Genomics: Aids exploration of miRNA-target interactions and regulatory networks using annotations tied to experimentally validated targets.

Methodology:

dbDEMC 3.0 is built by mining high-throughput experimental data from published studies and integrates and annotates differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) using bioinformatics tools.
