DRAWID

DRAWID performs quantitative measurement of chromosomes and constructs idiograms to support cytogenetic and genomic analyses including mapping of FISH and GISH signals.

Key Features:

  • Simultaneous measurement: Measures multiple chromosome parameters including chromosome length, centromere index, and positions of cytogenetic landmarks and FISH signals.
  • Integration with cytogenetic techniques: Supports data from fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), genomic in situ hybridization (GISH), and chromosome banding.
  • Idiogram construction and export: Generates publish-ready idiogram images for visual representation of chromosome data.
  • Data output: Exports quantitative results as Microsoft Excel tables.
  • Implementation: Implemented as a Java-based application.

Scientific Applications:

  • Cytogenetic studies: Provides precise measurements and visual idiograms for analysis of chromosomal structures and abnormalities.
  • Phylogenetic research: Enables construction of idiograms and comparison of chromosome features to inform studies of genome constitution and chromosome evolution.
  • Genomic studies: Facilitates mapping of genomic landmarks and analysis of genome rearrangements using FISH and GISH data.

Methodology:

Java-based implementation that measures chromosome length, centromere index, and positions of cytogenetic landmarks and FISH signals, integrates FISH/GISH and chromosome banding data, and exports Microsoft Excel tables and idiogram images.
