DroID

DroID integrates and curates gene and protein interaction data for Drosophila melanogaster to support analysis of genetic and regulatory networks.

Key Features:

  • Integrated interaction datasets: Aggregates genetic interactions, experimentally validated protein-protein interactions, and predicted protein interactions derived from studies in other species.
  • Curation and sources: Curated interaction information sourced from scientific literature and external databases.
  • Annotation system: Provides detailed experimental context for each recorded interaction.
  • Confidence scoring: Maintains periodically updated confidence scores that reflect the robustness of interaction evidence.
  • Expanded interaction types: Includes transcription factor–gene and regulatory RNA–gene interactions.
  • Gene expression integration: Incorporates gene expression datasets to refine and filter interaction networks and enable correlation analyses.
  • Orthologous mappings: Provides orthologous gene mappings from Drosophila to other model organisms and humans for comparative analyses.

Scientific Applications:

  • Drosophila network analysis: Mapping and analysis of genetic and protein interaction networks in Drosophila melanogaster.
  • Interaction prioritization: Prioritizing interactions for experimental follow-up using confidence scores.
  • Regulatory mechanism studies: Investigating transcription factor–gene and regulatory RNA–gene regulatory relationships.
  • Integrative expression analysis: Correlating gene expression patterns with interaction data to refine functional networks.
  • Comparative genomics: Identifying homologous interactions across species using orthologous gene mappings to other model organisms and humans.

Methodology:

Integration of interaction data from scientific literature and external databases, incorporation of experimentally validated and predicted protein-protein interactions (including predictions derived from other species), annotation of experimental context, periodic assignment of confidence scores, integration of gene expression datasets, and inclusion of orthologous gene mappings.
