EDCTP
EDCTP provides a Knowledge Hub that aggregates cross-cutting tools and resources to support planning, writing, and execution of clinical trials addressing HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and other poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries.
Key Features:
- Cross-cutting clinical trial tools: A suite of tools and resources supports planning, protocol development, writing, and execution of clinical trials.
- Capacity development focus: Resources target sustainable clinical trial capacity building in low- and middle-income countries, with emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa.
- Disease targets: Materials explicitly address HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and other poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases.
- Evidence-informed resources: Content was developed from mixed-method studies that identified key operational and scientific challenges faced by researchers.
- Support for locally led research: Resources aim to mitigate barriers impeding locally led study design and leadership in LMICs.
- Collaboration with TGHN: Partnership with The Global Health Network (TGHN) coordinates resource development and dissemination.
- Data generation support: Materials enable design and conduct of studies intended to generate data for improving disease management, prevention, and treatment.
Scientific Applications:
- Clinical trial planning and execution: Supports the design and conduct of high-quality clinical trials in LMIC settings.
- Research capacity strengthening: Facilitates training and capacity development for research staff involved in clinical trials.
- Locally relevant study design: Enables locally led studies that address regional health priorities while aligning with global standards.
- Disease-specific research: Supports research initiatives to generate evidence for management, prevention, and treatment of HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and other neglected infectious diseases.
Methodology:
Resources were developed based on insights from mixed-method studies that identified key challenges faced by researchers in low- and middle-income countries.
