EnrichrBot

EnrichrBot disseminates curated gene-related information on Twitter about human genes, highlighting under-studied genes including long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), promoting Enrichr gene sets, and linking relevant GWAS results such as Manhattan plots from UK Biobank.

Key Features:

  • Highlighting Under-Studied Genes: Tweets information about under-studied human genes, explicitly including long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs).
  • Interactive Gene Information Requests: Replies to user requests for specific gene-related information.
  • Integration with GWASbot: Responds to tweets from GWASbot that share genome-wide association study (GWAS) results, specifically Manhattan plots from UK Biobank analyses.
  • Random Gene Set Promotion: Tweets randomly selected gene sets sourced from the Enrichr database to encourage downstream analysis.
  • Gene Mention Responses: Detects mentions of human genes in tweets and provides additional gene-specific information.
  • Weekly Trend Reports: Compiles and shares weekly reports on the most frequently discussed human genes on Twitter.

Scientific Applications:

  • Awareness of Under-Studied Genes: Raises visibility of lesser-known human genes and lncRNAs to support discovery and hypothesis generation.
  • Facilitation of Enrichment Analyses: Promotes use of Enrichr gene-set resources and encourages exploration of gene sets for functional interpretation.
  • Contextualization of GWAS Results: Links GWAS outputs such as Manhattan plots from UK Biobank to gene-level information to aid interpretation of genetic associations.

Methodology:

EnrichrBot executes six automated functions via scheduled cron jobs and interacts with Twitter through the Twitter API to monitor tweets, reply to user queries, respond to GWASbot posts (including Manhattan plots from UK Biobank), tweet Enrichr gene sets, and compile weekly trend reports.
