Epilepsy Ontology (EPIO) provides a structured ontology representing epilepsy-related concepts to enable semantic interoperability and text mining in epilepsy research.


Key Features:

  • Structured Knowledge Base: Contains 1,879 classes and 28,151 axioms (including 2,171 declaration axioms and 2,219 logical axioms) covering multiple aspects of epilepsy.
  • Source Integration: Classes and axioms were derived from the latest International League against Epilepsy (ILAE) classification, domain-specific ontologies, and scientific literature.
  • Ontological Framework: Aligned with Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) principles and the Open Biological and Biomedical Ontology (OBO) Foundry to ensure interoperability with other biomedical ontologies.
  • Community-Based Effort: Developed through collaborative contributions from the epilepsy research community to consolidate domain knowledge.
