ESTs SOURCE

ESTs SOURCE integrates and compiles genome-scale EST and cDNA clone sequences, gene annotations, and DNA/cDNA microarray expression data from multiple scientific databases to support interpretation of genomic datasets for Homo sapiens, Mus musculus, and Rattus norvegicus.

Key Features:

  • Dynamic Data Compilation: Collects and curates data across multiple scientific databases for Homo sapiens, Mus musculus, and Rattus norvegicus.
  • GeneReports: Produces GeneReports containing aliases, chromosomal locations, functional descriptions, GeneOntology annotations, gene expression data, and links to external databases for genes and cDNA clones.
  • Microarray Data Curation: Curates published microarray gene expression datasets, including data generated using cDNA microarrays.
  • Gene- and Clone-Centric Organization: Organizes content into gene-centric and cDNA clone-centric records to represent different types of sequence and annotation data.
  • Dynamic Linking of Records: Establishes links between gene and clone records and external resources to integrate related genomic information.
  • Batch Data Extraction: Supports batch extraction of data for thousands of genes or clones to enable downstream statistical analyses such as functional enrichment.

Scientific Applications:

  • Identification of co-regulated genes: Enables discovery of gene sets with coordinated expression across tissues and experimental conditions using curated microarray datasets.
  • Functional annotation and interpretation: Facilitates assignment and review of functional descriptions and GeneOntology annotations for genes and clones.
  • Analysis of gene expression patterns: Supports examination of expression profiles from DNA and cDNA microarrays across different tissues and conditions.
  • Functional enrichment analysis: Provides batch data extraction to assess enrichment of functional attributes within gene clusters.

Methodology:

Continuous compilation and curation of datasets from multiple scientific databases; curation of published microarray gene expression datasets; generation of GeneReports with aliases, chromosomal locations, functional descriptions, GeneOntology annotations, gene expression data, and external links; organization into gene-centric and cDNA clone-centric records; batch extraction of data for thousands of genes or clones.
