Eukaryotic Linear Motif
Eukaryotic Linear Motif annotates and catalogs eukaryotic short linear motifs (SLiMs) to support analysis of motif-mediated protein-protein interactions and their roles in cellular processes.
Key Features:
- Manually curated, experimentally validated SLiMs: A database of SLiMs curated from primary literature with experimental validation indicated for entries.
- Annotation and detection: Annotation and detection of eukaryotic linear motifs (ELMs) and their motif-mediated interactions.
- Motif class expansion: Addition of 30 novel motif classes and revisions to five existing motif classes in the latest update.
- New motif instances: Inclusion of 411 new motif instances associated with cell-cycle regulation, control of the actin cytoskeleton, membrane remodelling, vesicle trafficking pathways, liquid-liquid phase separation, and integrin signalling.
- Pathogenic motif mimicry: Annotation of motif-mediated interactions identified as targets for viral, bacterial, or eukaryotic pathogens.
- Repository scale: The resource comprises 317 motif classes with 3,934 individual motif instances curated from 3,867 publications.
Scientific Applications:
- Protein-protein interaction analysis: Study of motif-mediated protein-protein interactions and their molecular determinants.
- Cell-cycle regulation: Investigation of SLiMs that regulate cell-cycle machinery.
- Actin cytoskeleton control: Analysis of motifs involved in actin cytoskeleton organization and dynamics.
- Membrane remodelling and vesicle trafficking: Examination of motifs that participate in membrane remodelling and vesicle trafficking pathways.
- Liquid-liquid phase separation: Identification of motifs implicated in liquid-liquid phase separation processes.
- Infectious disease mechanisms: Exploration of pathogenic motif mimicry where viral, bacterial, or eukaryotic pathogens target host motifs.
Methodology:
Manual literature curation and annotation of motif classes and instances with inclusion of experimentally validated SLiMs derived from 3,867 publications.
