ExerGeneDB

ExerGeneDB aggregates publicly available exercise-related sequencing datasets from human and rodent tissues and subjects them to uniform quality control, preprocessing, and differential analysis to identify exercise-regulated genes across multiple organs and clinical contexts.

Key Features:

  • Multi-species data integration: Assembles 1692 samples from rats and mice and 4492 human samples.
  • Multi-tissue coverage: Contains data from skeletal muscle, blood, adipose tissue, intestine, heart, liver, spleen, lungs, kidneys, brain, spinal cord, bone marrow, and bones.
  • Multiple sequencing platforms: Features bulk RNA-seq (including ncRNA and protein-coding RNA), microarray (including ncRNA and protein-coding RNA), and single cell RNA-seq data.
  • Clinical covariate integration: Conducts differential analyses leveraging curated clinical information and accounting for gender, age, and BMI.
  • Exercise parameter diversity: Encompasses data modulated by exercise intensity, frequency, mode, and duration.

Scientific Applications:

  • Exercise molecular biology research: Assists researchers in understanding molecular changes associated with exercise across multiple organs and tissues.
  • Comparative exercise genomics: Enables cross-species comparison of exercise-regulated gene expression in humans and rodents.
  • Clinical exercise studies: Supports investigation of how clinical features including gender, age, and BMI modulate exercise-induced molecular responses.
  • Multi-omics exercise analysis: Facilitates integrated analysis of protein-coding RNA, ncRNA, and single-cell transcriptomic responses to exercise.

Methodology:

Publicly available exercise-related sequencing datasets were aggregated and subjected to uniform quality control and preprocessing. Differential analyses were conducted on the collected data, leveraging curated clinical information and accounting for gender, age, and BMI.
