Falco
Falco processes full-length bulk RNA-seq and single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) datasets by accelerating read alignment and transcript assembly using cloud-based parallel and distributed computing.
Key Features:
- Scalability: Uses cloud-based infrastructure and distributed computing to scale processing power for large RNA-seq datasets.
- Alignment Optimization: Provides an alignment-only mode that reported 2.5x–16.4x speed improvements over highly optimized standalone computers and an approximately 10-fold average speed increase compared to Rail-RNA.
- Transcript Assembly Acceleration: Offers a transcript assembly mode with reported speed-ups of 1.7x–16.5x relative to traditional methods on optimized local systems.
Scientific Applications:
- Transcript isoform discovery: Facilitates identification of transcript isoforms through accelerated read alignment and assembly.
- Full-length RNA-seq analysis: Enables processing of full-length bulk RNA-seq datasets to support detailed transcriptomic studies.
- Single-cell RNA-seq high-throughput analysis: Supports large-scale scRNA-seq datasets for high-throughput single-cell transcriptomic investigations.
Methodology:
Performs read alignment (including an alignment-only mode) and transcript assembly using cloud-based parallel and distributed computing, and benchmarks performance against optimized local systems and Rail-RNA using public scRNA-seq datasets.
