FhirSpark
FhirSpark implements a mediation layer to integrate HL7 FHIR resources with cBioPortal for standardized exchange of genomic and clinical data to support molecular tumor boards and personalized oncology.
Key Features:
- Interoperability mediation: Implements a mediation layer enabling interoperability between cBioPortal and hospital information systems (HIS) to support exchange of clinical and genomic data.
- RESTful interface: Connects cBioPortal with the external mediation layer via a RESTful API for data exchange.
- FHIR-capable server: Uses a server that handles HL7 FHIR standards to store and manage genomic and clinical information.
- HL7 FHIR Genomics Reporting Implementation Guide: Applies the HL7 FHIR Genomics Reporting Implementation Guide to structure genomic reports according to the standard.
- HL7 v2 fallback: Provides a fallback mechanism using the HL7 Version 2 standard for systems that do not support FHIR.
Scientific Applications:
- Molecular tumor boards: Enables delivery of standardized genomic and clinical data into molecular tumor boards for integrated case review.
- Patient-specific therapy recommendations: Supports inclusion of genomic findings in therapy recommendation workflows tailored to individual patients.
- Clinical-research integration (MIRACUM): Facilitates integration of cBioPortal and HIS within initiatives such as MIRACUM to bridge research and clinical care.
Methodology:
Implements a mediation layer linking cBioPortal and HIS via a RESTful interface, operates a FHIR-capable server applying the HL7 FHIR Genomics Reporting Implementation Guide, and offers an HL7 Version 2 fallback option.
