fIDBAC

fIDBAC performs bacterial species identification, automated strain typing, and downstream whole-genome analyses using average nucleotide identity (ANI) and a curated type-strain genome database to provide accurate microbial genomic characterization.

Key Features:

  • Accurate Species Identification: Utilizes average nucleotide identity (ANI), aligned with DNA–DNA hybridization standards, for precise bacterial species delineation from whole genomes.
  • Automated Strain Typing: Provides automated strain typing to distinguish closely related bacterial strains.
  • Curated Genome Database: Employs a multi-step strategy to curate a high-quality type-strain genome database by eliminating wrongly labeled and low-quality assemblies.
  • Downstream Genomic Analysis: Supports coding sequence (CDS) prediction, annotation of drug resistance genes and virulence factors, and phylogenetic studies.

Scientific Applications:

  • Food Industry: Identification of bacterial contaminants to support food safety and quality control.
  • Pharmaceutical Industry: Monitoring and characterization of microbial contamination during drug production processes.
  • Clinical Diagnostics: Accurate pathogen identification to inform clinical decision-making and treatment strategies.
  • Bacterial Taxonomy: Species delineation and taxonomic curation to improve understanding of bacterial diversity and evolutionary relationships.

Methodology:

Genome-centric approach using curated type-strain genome databases, multi-step curation to remove mislabeled and low-quality assemblies, integration of average nucleotide identity (ANI) calculations with automated workflows, and computational analyses including CDS prediction, resistance and virulence gene annotation, and phylogenetic studies.
