FIDEA
FIDEA performs functional interpretation of differential expression results from RNA-Seq by mapping differentially expressed genes to KEGG pathways, InterPro families and Gene Ontology (GO) terms and assessing statistical overrepresentation to identify enriched biological categories.
Key Features:
- RNA-Seq differential expression input: Processes lists of differentially expressed genes derived from RNA-Seq experiments, including large gene sets.
- Functional mapping: Maps genes to KEGG pathways, InterPro families and Gene Ontology (GO) terms for Molecular Function, Biological Process and Cellular Component.
- Statistical overrepresentation analysis: Performs statistical overrepresentation analysis to detect category terms significantly enriched among the input gene set.
- Functional classification aggregation: Aggregates gene-level annotations into pathway- and ontology-level classifications to support biological interpretation.
Scientific Applications:
- Pathway enrichment analysis: Identification of KEGG pathways enriched among differentially expressed genes from RNA-Seq studies.
- Ontology-based functional profiling: Characterization of enriched GO terms across Molecular Function, Biological Process and Cellular Component.
- Protein family annotation: Assessment of InterPro family enrichment to reveal conserved protein domains associated with expression changes.
- Biological hypothesis generation: Translation of differential expression results into candidate biological functions and processes for downstream experimental validation.
Methodology:
Maps differentially expressed genes onto KEGG, InterPro and GO classifications and performs statistical overrepresentation analysis to identify significantly enriched categories.
