FlorItaly aggregates and standardizes nomenclatural and distributional data for native and alien vascular plants of Italy to support botanical research, conservation planning, and environmental assessment.
Key Features:
- Centralized Data Aggregation: Integrates nomenclatural and distributional data from recent checklists of native and alien vascular plants and is continuously updated to reflect taxonomic revisions and discoveries.
- Standardization and Connectivity: Harmonizes disparate data standards and connects resources through web services to facilitate data retrieval and interoperability.
- Taxonomic Consistency: Provides updated and consistent checklists to resolve taxonomic incongruences across sources.
- Collaborative Framework: Curated through the input of over 50 taxonomists with support from the Italian Botanical Society and Project "Dryades" at the University of Trieste.
Scientific Applications:
- Biodiversity Research: Facilitates study of plant diversity, distribution patterns, and evolutionary relationships within Italy.
- Conservation Efforts: Assists identification of priority areas for conservation by highlighting regions with unique or threatened species.
- Environmental Impact Assessments: Provides data for assessing the impacts of environmental changes on native and alien plant species.
Methodology:
