FunOMIC
FunOMIC enables profiling of the human mycobiome by identifying fungal taxa and annotating fungal functions from human metagenomic samples.
Key Features:
- Extensive Databases: Includes a taxonomic database of 1.6 million marker genes and a functional database with over 3.4 million non-redundant fungal proteins.
- Taxonomic Identification and Profiling: Performs identification of fungi from human metagenomic samples and profiles species diversity and abundance across anatomical sites.
- Functional Annotation: Assigns functional annotations to fungal sequences using the non-redundant fungal protein database.
- Large-Scale Application: Has been applied to over 2,600 human metagenomic samples to detect fungal species associated with specific geographical locations, anatomical sites, and diseases.
- Inter-Kingdom Interaction Analysis: Supports correlation network analysis to investigate interactions between fungi and other microbial kingdoms within the human microbiome.
- Database Integration: Integrates taxonomic and functional databases for combined classification and functional characterization of fungal sequences.
Scientific Applications:
- Microbiome Research: Enables comprehensive analysis of the human mycobiome alongside bacterial microbiomes in metagenomic studies.
- Epidemiology: Identifies geographical patterns of fungal distribution and associations with disease prevalence across populations.
- Clinical Diagnostics: Assists detection and characterization of pathogenic fungi associated with specific diseases in metagenomic datasets.
- Ecological Studies: Supports exploration of inter-kingdom interactions and microbial community structure within the human microbiome.
Methodology:
Processes human metagenomic samples through integrated taxonomic and functional databases to perform classification and functional annotation of fungi and enables correlation network analysis for inter-kingdom interaction investigation.
