FuzDB

FuzDB catalogs experimentally observed fuzzy protein complexes and their context-dependent interactions to elucidate how disordered protein regions mediate fuzzy interactions that regulate biomolecular condensates and liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS).

Key Features:

  • Experimental compilation: Aggregates entries of experimentally observed fuzzy protein complexes and their interactions.
  • Interaction scope: Documents fuzzy interactions between proteins and other biomolecules, including DNA, RNA, and small molecules, emphasizing their specificity and variability.
  • Disordered region annotation: Identifies and links interactions mediated by intrinsically disordered protein regions.
  • Assembly context: Includes data on interactions within stoichiometric complexes and higher-order assemblies such as protein droplets.
  • Biomolecular condensate relevance: Associates fuzzy interactions with biomolecular condensates and phenomena related to LLPS.
  • Cross-database integration: Establishes cross-links to structural and functional resources including PDB, BMRB, PED, ELM, UniProt, PhaSepDB, PhaSePro, and LLPSDB.

Scientific Applications:

  • Molecular mechanism elucidation: Enables studies of the molecular underpinnings of context-dependent fuzzy interactions in cells.
  • Condensate research: Supports investigation of how fuzzy interactions regulate biomolecular condensates and LLPS-driven protein droplets.
  • Disorder-function analysis: Facilitates analysis of how intrinsically disordered regions contribute to cellular functionality and regulation through context-dependent associations.
  • Integrative structure-function studies: Allows cross-referencing with PDB, BMRB, PED, ELM, and UniProt for combined structural and functional analyses.

Methodology:

Compilation and organization of experimentally observed fuzzy protein complexes with establishment of cross-links to PDB, BMRB, PED, ELM, UniProt, PhaSepDB, PhaSePro, and LLPSDB.
