gConvert

gConvert translates diverse gene, protein, microarray probe and other database identifiers into target Ensembl IDs to standardize identifiers for downstream functional analyses across 213 species.

Key Features:

  • Identifier Translation: Translates a wide array of gene identifiers into target database IDs to standardize heterogeneous datasets.
  • Supported Identifier Types: Accepts genes, proteins, microarray probes, standard names and other database IDs.
  • Species Coverage: Provides mapping across 213 species including mammals, other vertebrates, plants, insects and fungi.
  • Ensembl Synchronization: Synchronizes genome and pathway annotations with the Ensembl database on a quarterly basis to maintain up-to-date mappings.
  • Functional Enrichment Annotations: Links gene lists to Gene Ontology terms, pathways and other functional annotations for biological interpretation.
  • List Type Support: Supports both flat and ranked gene lists for enrichment analyses.
  • Expanded Functional Datasets (2016): Includes transcription factor binding site predictions, Mendelian disease annotations, protein expression and complex information, and gene mappings of human genetic polymorphisms.
  • g:Profiler Integration: Integrates with the g:Profiler suite for mapping identifiers and performing enrichment analyses.

Scientific Applications:

  • Comparative and Functional Genomics: Standardizes identifiers across species to facilitate comparative genomics and functional annotation of gene sets.
  • Translational Research and Disease Studies: Supports identification of disease-related annotations and candidate therapeutic targets through up-to-date mappings and enriched functional datasets.

Methodology:

Synchronizes annotations with Ensembl on a quarterly schedule and integrates with g:Profiler to map input identifiers to target IDs and to perform functional enrichment annotation.
